Huntail and Gorebyss are two Pokémon that are often confused as snakes. Although both take primary inspiration from eels, they also have serpent-like features. These two Pokémon evolve from Clamperl, depending on conditions.
Huntail is a Generation III water-type purple snake Pokémon and has a base stat of 485. It evolves from Clamperl when it holds a Deep Sea Tooth during a trade. Huntail can swim to the extreme depths of the sea as it can withstand high pressure and darkness. It is a water snake Pokémon and one of the few ones around. Its hidden ability, Water Veil, prevents other Pokémon from getting burned.
If you evolve Clamperl while it holds a Deep Sea Scale, you get a Gorebyss. The base stat of this Pokémon is the same as Huntail. Gorebyss’ hidden ability, Hydration, helps to make your Pokémon immune to Yawn.
Dunsparce is a Generation II Normal-type Pokémon with a base stat of over 415. Although it looks like a caterpillar, it is based on a snake-like being, Tsuchinoko. Dunsparce is a land snake Pokémon. It is the weakest this snake Pokémon list but still has enough firepower to paralyze its opponents by hitting them with Stab Headbutt.
One of the first dragon-type Pokémon we got to witness in the anime. Dragonair has a base stat of over 420 and can change the weather by emitting aura from its crystals. Dragonair can also make its wings grow bigger to fly nonchalantly in the air. This blue snake Pokémon is a blend of sea serpents and Japanese/Chinese dragons. It evolves from Dratini at level 30.
The signature move of the Dratini family is Outrage, which is extremely useful while fighting multiple opponents. Dragonair’s hidden ability Marvel Scale increases its defensive capacity by 50% during a status condition. The Pokémon evolves into the mighty Dragonite at level 55.
Arbok is a Generation I Poison-type Pokémon having a base stat of over 438. This vicious Pokémon is based on the Indian cobra. The anime gave us the wrong impression of its powers as it was in the hands of Team Rocket. In reality, Arbok is more powerful than you think. It is highly territorial and fends of intruders with deadly venom.
Arbok can wrap its body around the opponents and squeeze the life force out of them. It can even flatten out steel drums without breaking a sweat. It is capable of changing patterns on its hood to frighten and immobilize opponents. Ekans and Arbok are the only Pokémon that can learn Glare, a move that paralyzes everyone except Ghost-type and Electric-type ones.
Seviper is a Generation III Poison-type Pokémon having a base stat of over 458. As the name suggests, it is based on habu viper, which is known for its rivalry with mongoose. This is another excellent serpent that was nerfed by makers in the anime to portray protagonists as powerful. It also has a nemesis, Zangoose, similar to its real-life counterpart.
Seviper has a sword-like tail useful for slashing opponents and inflicting them with deadly poison. It can learn most moves quickly and use them accurately. Its hidden ability is Infiltrator that is useful to bypass through effects, such as Reflect, Safeguard, etc. Seviper learns Wring Out in the 46th level, which becomes lethal depending on your opponent’s HP level.
Gyarados is a Generation I Water/Flying-type Pokémon. It has a base stat of 580, and it goes to 640 during Mega Evolution. Gyarados evolves from Magikarp at level 22.
Gyarados appears to be a combination of a sea serpent and sea or Chinese dragon. It is incredibly short-tempered and can obliterate surrounding areas when it is furious. Most of its attacks can cause severe damage to its opponents, especially the Dragon Rage. A blue water snake Pokémon, Gyarados is among the most powerful ones around.
Steelix is a Generation II Steel/Ground-type Pokémon having a base stat of over 510. It is among the few rock snake Pokémon and is based on a snake and earthworm. It evolves from Onyx during evolution if it holds a Metal Coat. Steelix is also capable of Mega Evolution, and its base stats increase to 610 in that form.
The Pokémon’s jaws are so tough that it can chew through giant boulders. It consumed soil enriched with the iron and made its body harder than diamonds, which helps ward off almost all physical attacks. Although it loses some moves after evolving from Onix, you get a species with the highest base defense stat of all ground Pokémon.
Milotic is a Generation III Water-type Pokémon having a base stat of over 540. It is based on a combination of sea serpents and mermaids. It is probably the most gorgeous one on this snake Pokémon list. It evolves from Feebas when leveled up with high Beautiful condition, or holding the Prism Scale during a trade.
Milotic is a peaceful Pokémon that can becalm conflicts. It has a wide range of water and dragon-type attacks that are useful in battles. The Pokémon can also learn Coil, a Poison-type move in the 48th level.
Sandaconda is a Generation VIII Ground-type Pokémon having a base stat of over 510. It is based on an anaconda (no surprises here) and other desert-dwelling snakes. Sandaconda’s head is protected by an inflated sand pouch, which is difficult even for Durant’s pincers to make a dent. It sprays the stored sand through its nose with tremendous force that can cause laceration to any Pokémon that comes in contact. Although Sandaconda looks intimidating, it lasts only until the pouch has sand in it.
Sandaconda evolves from Silicobra at level 36 and has a Gigantamax form. The height of the Pokémon increases astronomically, and it stands on its tail like the real-life cobra. The storage capacity of the sand pouch also gets an upgrade to a whopping 1,000,000 tons. In this form, it spins its body at alarming speeds and generates power force enough to annihilate even skyscrapers.
Serperior is a Generation V Grass-type Pokémon having a base stat of over 528. It is based on a combination of many species of snakes and limbless lizards. It is one of the most graceful snakes on the list and can magnify solar energy absorbed by its body. Snivy evolves into its final form, Serperior, after reaching level 36.
There is one strange thing though. It is a non-venomous Pokémon. Serperior primarily uses Vine Whip and Grass Knot, which is a deadly combo against most Pokémon, as it has the highest DPS. Its hidden ability, Contrary, is incredibly useful while fighting strong opponents as it inverses all the status change attacks. Therefore, Leaf Storm gets more effective with each iteration.
We have saved the best for the last. There are a few snake-like Legendary Pokémon that are tremendously powerful with an arsenal of massive attacks.
03. Zygarde 50%
Zygarde is a Generation VI Dragon/Ground-type Pokémon having a base stat of over 600. There are 3 forms of Zygarde, and it is denoted by percentages, namely 10%, 50%, and 100%, or the complete form. The Zygarde at 50% is a snake-like Pokémon that is based on a combination of Jörmungandr (a sea serpent) and Níðhöggr (a dragon). It is a Pokémon that loves nature and proceeds to pulverize people who harm the environment.
The complete form of Zygarde is incredibly powerful, with a base stat of over 704. It has some severe attacks, such as Land’s Wrath, that can cause insane damage to all Pokémon near the point of contact. Hence, it is highly effective when you are pitted against multiple opponents. Zygarde’s hidden ability Power Construct allows it to transform into the complete form when its power level is below 50%.
Rayquaza is a Generation III Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon having a base stat of over 680. It is the official ambassador of the Pokémon Emerald game. Rayquaza acts as the peace-maker to solve the conflict between Kyogre and Groudon. It has a Mega Stone-like organ inside its body that helps in Mega Evolution after consuming meteoroids to reach a specific energy level. Mega Rayquaza is stupendously powerful and has a base stat of over 780.
Rayquaza is immensely challenging to find, as it is often confused as a meteor. Its signature ability is Air Lock, where all the effects of weather, such as Sandstorm, Sunny Day, etc. are rendered useless. Whereas Mega Rayquaza’s signature move, Delta Storm, causes a strong current of winds that suppresses its opponents’ ability.
Eternatus is the personification of Legendary Pokémon as it is capable of causing colossal damage. It is a Generation VIII Poison/Dragon-type Pokémon having a base stat of over 690.
For the unversed, the base stat of most Legendary Pokémon falls under 680. Eternatus can effortlessly intimidate people because of its height (65 ft). That’s not all! When it enters its ultimate form, Eternamax, it has a monstrous base stat of 1125.
Unfortunately, we get only a glimpse of its Eternamax form during its signature move, Eternabeam. During Eternamax form, the height of Pokémon is around 328 ft. The Pokémon is ridiculously overpowered and serves as the antagonist for the Sword and Shield game. The only way to defeat it is by using the mascots of the game together.
What Level Does Ekans Evolve?

Is Dragonite a snake Pokémon?
Dragonite is not a snake Pokémon although it’s evolution chain includes Dratini and Dragonair, both snake-like Pokémon. But know that these 3 Pokémon are labeled as Dragon types, among the first dragon-type Pokémon to be introduced in the Poké world.
The latest Pokémon anime is slowly changing the dynamics of the world. We witnessed Ash becoming the Pokémon Master after 22 years, even though he is still a 10-year-old in the anime. We also survived a major scare, where makers cleverly made us think that Pikachu finally evolved into Raichu. Coming to the game section, we got 2 insanely crafted legendary Pokémon in the Sword and Shield game. Hopefully, we will get more snake like Pokémon in the upcoming Generations!
