iPhone Games Round-up: Part 2

iPhone Games Round-up: Part 2

As relative late adopters to the iPhone, we're still working our way through the insane backlog of games that have built up on the app store. Finding the diamonds in the rough is a difficult thing with the amount of content released every week, but we're doing our best. So, for the second outing of our games round-up, we delve into the genre of tower defence for the first time, as well as tackle the use of tilt controls (with varying success) and enjoy one of the biggest technical achievements on the iPhone.

Rock Band Unplugged

Review: Rock Band Unplugged (PSP)

With Activision extending the Guitar Hero franchise to handheld platforms (to mixed success), it was only natural that EA / MTV Games would follow suit. But they haven't gone for the obvious peripheral add-on route, nor even the most popular handheld; they've taken things back to Harmonix's roots and released something a little more abstract.

Preview: Demon's Souls (PS3)

The twist comes via the online functionality.

Review: inFamous (PS3)

Undoubtedly a good game, Infamous can be a very frustrating experience at times.

Preview: The Conduit (Wii)

The Conduit has the potential to exceed expectations.

Review: Virtua Tennis 2009 (PS3)

As it stands, however, the World Tour becomes a bit of a chore.

Review: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (PS3)

Still, it's one of the better licensed games we've played this year.

Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (360)

So why was Sonic 3 always the ugly duckling of the earlier games?

inFamous

Review: inFamous (PS3)

Taking a break from the highly acclaimed Sly Cooper series, developers Sucker Punch have decided to have a go at creating their own unique take of a sandbox superhero game. Playing the role of bike messenger Cole McGrath, you wake up at ground zero of a massive explosion that rocks Empire City, causing society to quickly fall apart and violent gangs to take over. The explosion has blessed Cole with the power to absorb and use a variety of electricity-based attacks and abilities which leads to him being blamed as the cause for the disaster. Throughout the course of the game he must discover the truth of what really happened.

Review: Football Manager Handheld 2009 (PSP)

FMH 2009 is a faithful recreation of Football Manager.

Review: Punch-Out!! (Wii)

Can we have Pilotwings and F-Zero next, please?

Review: Red Faction: Guerrilla (PS3)

To Red Faction: Guerrilla's credit it is much more than just GTA set on Mars.

Demon's Souls

Demon's Souls

It's a safe bet that any game title featuring the word 'demon' will have the involvement of Atlus in some capacity. Demon's Souls is no different, although the Persona creator only takes the role of publisher for this RPG.

The Conduit

Preview: The Conduit (Wii)

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has shown us that the Wii and First Person Shooters is a winning combination. The console's remote and nunchuk controls offer a level of precision that was previously only available on the PC. Gamestyle cannot understand why more developers haven't done more to utilise one of the Wii’s obvious strengths. Instead, the console has quickly become a haven for disappointing party games, and lazy ports. Up step High Voltage Software, however, with a game that they claim will "provide gamers with the kind of title they imagined back when the platform was first announced". A First Person Shooter, built from the ground up with the Wii in mind? Gamestyle is hoping that The Conduit can fulfil its potential.

Preview: Edge of Twilight (360)

You play as Lex, an outcast bounty hunter.

Preview: Hysteria Hospital: Emergency Ward (Wii)

Visually its hard not to reminisce about Theme Hospital.

Preview: Mx vs ATV Reflex (PS3)

Visually it’s hard not to be impressed by what we’ve seen on the game so far.

Preview: Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings (Wii)

This time around the competition comes from no other but Magnus Voller.

Preview: Mini Ninjas (360)

The combat looks far deeper than we expected.

Preview: Batman: Arkham Asylum (360)

It’s easily one of the best looking games we’ve seen.

Gamestyle remembers: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

How do you follow up what is widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time? iPhone Games Round-Up

It’s so good even Phillip Schofield loves it.

Gamestyle remembers: Eternal Darkness

The psychological horror comes in the form of a highly-praised novelty known as 'sanity effects'.

Silver Screen: Street Fighter 2 The Animated Movie

This is not just recommended for fans of the game, but also those that love their anime.

Silver Screen: Resident Evil Degeneration

Like Final Fantasy: Advent Children, Degeneration is nothing more than style over substance.

Best of PSN

The most unique game in our list may not even be called a game.

Silver Screen: Max Payne

The only good thing to really say about Max Payne is that it's shot quite beautifully.
