Review: I MAED A GAM3 WITH Z0MB1ES!!!1 (360)
Most downloadable titles whether it’s the PSN or Xbox Arcade stores tend to lean towards straightforward arcade shooters or puzzle variations, such is their beautiful simplicity. A virtual rebirth of the blast ‘em genre has taken place since the opening of these online stores. These almost always take place in space, yet for I MAED A GAM3 WITH Z0MB1ES!!!1, we find ourselves as a solitary gunman, facing down a rampaging horde of zombies and other creatures.
The game play takes it cue from classics such as Rambo and Commando and their ilk, with the emphasis on rapid trigger action and little regard for ammunition. The backdrop is a virtual high definition dance floor, which will change as you progress through the game in pursuit of high scores. To avoid the horrendous game title again, we’ll just say that the fun element continues into the experience as well.
Using the dual stick approach we’ve seen in many titles of late, you can scroll around the screen fluidly, whilst firing in any direction. The AI is pretty simple as you are the only target and streams of opponents will chase you as you weave in and out of difficult situations. The game is simply about surviving for as long as possible.
Many of the Indie Games releases are basic when it comes to implementation and presentation. This title is different as the name and opening menus are deliberately 8 bit in presentation. Just seeing the game in action and how streamlined it is, even when it is full of zombies, confirms the expertise at work here. You cannot help but be sucked into the ease of play and the desire to score higher. Helping you to achieve this are the variety of weapons that can be acquired for short periods. These include lasers, rockets, flamethrowers and machine guns, each with their own advantage. You’ll soon become comfortable and adopt a favourite, but when the enemies change from zombies this prompts the need to reconsider your arsenal.
Part of the attraction is the inventive backdrops that appear at various stages and the sublime soundtrack that accompanies the game. The developer put together the soundtrack himself – just listen to some of the lyrics! Alongside Easy Golf: Course Architect, this is one of the more impressive home developed titles we’ve experienced. For a meagre 80 points its also the Xbox Live bargain of the century and you’ll be hard pushed to resist after trying the trial edition. Also included is a single screen four player option that keeps up the pace but is sadly offline only.
I MAED A GAM3 WITH Z0MB1ES!!!1 is a fun diversion from the lavish and complex games we have become accustomed to playing nowadays. If you fancy a break from the daily chore of gaming, then do check out this fun wee title.
Rating: 7 / 10
The graphics and sound are excellent by the standards of a third-party Wii game.
Although Heavy Rain is entertaining from the start, there are several flaws that hamper the enjoyment.
A very endearing entry in the series, and another that is well worth checking out.
The first thing you notice when you get this guide in your hands is the quality.
The control gripes aside, Aliens vs Predator is a good game.
Another great competition.
